Festival of Lights Zagreb: Beauty with a Moral!
The Festival of Lights celebrates spring, bringing fireflies and meteorites in your life, reminding you of a beautiful flower, a wild cyclamen and invites you to meet and experience it in person. It clearly states: the world we live in is the only one we have!
From 20 to 24 March, life in Zagreb will be marked by the Festival of Lights. Citizens and visitors of Zagreb will be able to enjoy as many as 29 beautiful light installations which celebrate spring and new life and send a message of the importance of preserving nature, tradition, and our planet.
The Festival of Lights Zagreb, organised by the Zagreb Tourist Board together with partners, is now in its sixth year. Artists from Croatia, Germany, Spain, and Slovakia attract many visitors from all over the world with their imaginative installations in the town centre. It is a creative blend of art, design, show and architecture which trills all generations of visitors. Installations that inspire, thrill with their aesthetics are created with the help of light, art and creativity in the streets, squares and romantic parks in Zagreb, as well as other locations. However, they also send a powerful message of the importance of preserving nature and its symbols for future generations.
In cooperation with international NGO World Wildlife Fund (WWF) which is active in the field of wilderness preservation and reducing human footprint on the environment, this year’s edition of the festival is dedicated to the importance of preserving plant and animal species. The main symbol of the festival is the wild cyclamen, a spring blossom which is threatened by climate changes. It reminds us of the importance of preserving nature and beauty of wild species to be kept for future generations.
The Festival of Lights Zagreb will support the need for preserving nature by joining the global event Earth Hour.
Beautiful art installations, a blend of innovative 3D mapping with tradition and recognisable Zagreb attractions, will change the face of the city during five days of the festival. With their stories they will take us to the world of imagination, fairy tales and beauty. However, they also raise awareness about the vulnerability of nature and civilisation and with images and activities invite us to turn chaos into harmony.
