Holiday Cultural Scene: Marked by The Nutcracker
Holiday spirit is visible in the entire city, and at the cultural scene as well. For decades The Nutcracker has ruled it and the interest is not fading, quite the opposite.
Every year, the Croatian National Theatre marks the Advent time by performances of ballet fairy tale the Nutcracker by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Even more, we could say that long queues in front of the theatre in early November to get tickets are a first sign of holidays to come. The result is the same year after year: tickets are sold out in record time both online and at the box office. This is proven by the fact that this year 4000 tickets which were available online, were sold within just 5 minutes.
The Nutcracker has been an indispensable part of the Croatian National Theatre’s repertoire as od 1970. As of 2019 Zagreb’s Nutcracker has been created by choreographer and producer Vladimir Malakhov, a world-famous ballet artist. The ballet had its world premiere on 18 December 1892 in Sankt Peterburg.
The Nutcracker will also be shown in the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall on 14 and 15 December performed by the Ukrainian Classic Ballet. These world-famous performers are met every year with a lot of excitement from the audience in Zagreb so there is no wonder that the tickets were sold out in record time this year once again.
Three shows of The Nutcracker – a Musical Story for Children, intended for children aged 4 to 10, will be held at the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall in late December.
An integral part of the Advent atmosphere in Zagreb is also an eventful programme of other theatres, museums and galleries but also music performances in churches, city streets, balconies and parks.
