INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL

If you are transporting your dog or cat across the borders of the Republic of Croatia, you must comply with the laws that apply to both EU citizens and those of third countries. We strongly advise you to prepare in advance, gather information, and ensure you have all the necessary travel documents – then Croatia is open for exploration for both you and your pet!

Entry into Croatia with a pet

Every country has its own rules regarding the transportation of pets, and when traveling abroad, it's important to check the regulations of each specific country. For those coming to Croatia with their pets, we have listed the rules they must adhere to.

For travellers from EU countries as well as Norway and Northern Ireland

  • It is allowed to bring a maximum of five pets - dogs and cats - otherwise, it is considered a commercial movement.
  • You must have a valid passport containing identification data and vaccination records. The animal must be vaccinated against rabies at least six months (up to one year) before entering Croatia. Dogs must have received treatment against Echinococcus multilocularis tapeworm. The passport must also contain a certificate stating that the pet is in good health and free from any infectious diseases.
  • Pets must be microchipped (or have a tattoo), and dogs must also wear a muzzle and be securely fastened to a leash.

For travellers from third countries

  • In addition to the previously mentioned requirements for travellers from EU countries, the entry with a pet is allowed if the person has a European Union health certificate for animals. This certificate contains the pet's name, details, and vaccination history against rabies. However, unlike the passport, an authorized veterinarian in the home country must confirm it no more than ten days before entering Croatia.

More information about the transportation of pets and other animals can be found on the website of the Customs Administration of the Republic of Croatia.
