AIRPLANE

With your pet on the plane? Why not! Numerous airlines, including the domestic Croatia Airlines, allow transportation of pets – of course, if you as the owner is on the same flight – for a special fee. Some of them can be with you in the passenger cabin, while others are transported in the cargo hold of the aircraft.

Before you embark on your journey...

It is essential to note that certain countries have special regulations regarding pets (for example, they may not be allowed to be transported in the passenger cabin) or their travel through the airport is entirely prohibited. Therefore, it is crucial to check with the airline if such arrangements are possible – sometimes even the return flight may have differences. Also, keep in mind that pet transportation is subject to additional charges and should always be reserved in advance.

Which documents do you need?

Generally speaking, you will need your pet's passport, a valid certificate proving rabies vaccination, as well as other documents depending on the destination country (sometimes, for example, a TITAR test). If it is a return flight, make sure to check the regulations of both countries!

What about guide dogs and service dogs?

If it is a guide dog for blind or visually impaired individuals, or for those with hearing impairments, a search and rescue dog, or an assistance dog for persons with disabilities, most airlines transport them for free. Some airlines operating flights from Zagreb, such as Ryanair, allow ONLY these dogs to be transported. They can be present in the cabin with the passenger, but for safety reasons, dogs should also wear a muzzle.

How to transport them?

The general rule is that smaller dogs and animals can be transported in the cabin, while larger ones are placed in the cargo hold under special conditions. To be sure, check with your airline about their pet transportation policy (ideally more than a month in advance).
