Zagreb-style faširanci with kale – minced meat steaks
Ever tried Zagreb-style faširanci? No? Well, what are you waiting for?
Younger members of your family will love this dish, and, mark our words, those a bit older will also clean their plates so thoroughly that they will barely need washing.
Ingredients for 4-6 people:
For the minced meat steaks:
2 large rolls
100 ml of milk
750g minced meat
½ of onion
1 egg
1 tablespoon chopped parsley
100g breadcrumbs
For the kale:
1 head of fresh young kale
1 purple onion
150g carrots
3 cloves garlic
150 g smoked bacon
200 g white beans from a can
Also:
300 ml oil for frying
Salt and ground black pepper
Preparation:
Cut kale leaves into larger pieces. Chop garlic. Cut buns into cubes, place in a bowl. Add a pinch of salt, cover with milk and leave to soften. Place the minced meat into a separate bowl, add ground black pepper, a little salt, crushed garlic, chopped onions and chopped parsley, one egg and mix everything together well. First, shape the mixture into dumplings with your hands moist. Next, shape them into faširanci and roll in breadcrumbs. Pour a little oil into a tall pot, add carrots sliced into rings and chopped red onions. Add a little salt and briefly simmer until the ingredients soften a little. Then add canned white beans, sliced cloves of garlics, kale and dried bacon. Cover everything with water, close the pot and cook over a low flame for about half an hour. In the meantime, heat frying oil in a separate pan and fry the faširanci until golden-yellow, occasionally turning. Faširanci with kale serve hot.
