29th World Men’s Handball Championship: Zagreb to Welcome Handball Players
In early 2025, Zagreb will be one of the hosting countries of the 29th World Men's Handball Championship, which is for the first time organised by three countries.
For the first time in history, the World Men's Handball Championship, taking place from 14 January to 2 February 2025, is organised jointly by three countries, Croatia, Denmark and Norway. The city hosting it in Croatia are Zagreb, Varaždin and Poreč. In Denmark, which is defending the title of the world champion, the hosting city will be Herning. This is where the opening of the World Men's Handball Championship will take place, while the finals will be played in the Norwegian city of Oslo. The draw of the championship was held in May 2024 in Zagreb.
A total of 63 per cent of all the games of the 29th World Men’s Handball Championship will be played in Croatia so Zagreb is the host of two groups in the first phase, one group in the second phase, two quarterfinals, and one semifinal. Varaždin, a city nearby, will host the first phase and one group of the second phase while Poreč will be the host of one group of the first phase and the President Cup.
Croatia won a gold at the World Championship in 2003, a silver in 1995, 2005 and 2009, and a bronze in 2013.
A strong interest in handball and sporting competitions in general as well as a rich experience of organising international sporting competitions are a guarantee that all groups as well as fans will be met with hospitality in Zagreb. There will be a wonderful atmosphere at the competitions as well as in the city.
